For eye care professionals

Discover how we strive to improve lives by improving sight

Locally and nationally we support a number of philanthropic initiatives to work towards eradicating poor vision in one generation.

Causes we support

Our philanthropic initiative can be supported in many ways from lens donations, free vision screenings, awareness campaigns and fundraising. In the UK we have listed the main charities that we support.

Vision Aids Overseas

Vision Aid Overseas has been helping some of the world’s poorest people to see clearly for over 30 years. Supporting communities in Africa the charity runs a number of programes to support communicty outreach, training and education, child eye health and create vision centres. Essilor recently have been supporting the charity with their adopt a school initiative where we ensure every child at the adopted schools will receive an eye test and if needed, a pair of glasses to correct their vision.

Vision Care for Homeless People

Vision Care for Homeless People

Founded in 2003, Vision Care for Homeless People's aim is “to preserve, protect and promote the ocular health of homeless and vulnerable people in the UK who are unwilling or unable to access mainstream services available through the NHS”. Essilor has been working with the charity since 2011 and believe in supporting the charity with their aim and aspirations “to make a difference to as many homeless and vulnerable people”.

Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT)

We are working with the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) to raise awareness about retinoblastoma amongst the optical community. Babies and young children will not be able to tell you if they are having problems with their vision, so as a optical practice knowing the signs is crucial for saving sight, eyes and ultimately, lives.

Vision screenings for schools

Working with local eye care professionals in the community, we assist schools by offering vision screenings for their pupils. The vision screenings give us an opportunity to raise awareness for the need for regular eye examinations, good eye health and the impact vision has on children. Results from the screenings allows us to recommend a visit to an optician if any anomalies are discovered, to encourage regular eye examination if the child has not yet had one or to continue with their regular appointments.

Why do we do this? We know the impact vision has on a child's education, overall health and well-being. It is our duty to provide this message to parents, children, their school and community.

We'd love to partner with more ECPs so we can provide more vision screenings. Contact us today to discuss a vision screening at a school in your local community.

Fundraising and sponsorship

Throughout the year we run fundraising events. This year we raised money for Vision Aid Overseas Support a School initiative through a go karting day. It was a great success and we raised £5000. We have also supported ABDO College students in raising money for Vision Care for Homeless People where we sponsored a race during their event. The decathlon raised £2,846 for the charity.

We hope to add more fundraising events to our calendar for 2019/2020. Watch this space...
