As the warmer weather has arrived it is a great opportunity to take the time to talk to your patients about sunwear protection and recommend a pair of sun lenses. Here are our tips on how to introduce sunwear to your patients:
Prepare your patient before they visit by asking a few key questions and getting them to think about sunwear. This is most effective when patients contact you to book an appointment or communicated in recall letters, emails and texts
“When did you last update the prescription in your sunglasses?”
“What do you tend to use when driving, going for a walk or going on holiday”?
“Would you like to bring in your current pair of sunglasses for us ensure they meet your needs”?
Engage your patient before and during their visit.
Lifestyle conversations and questioning should form a key part in understanding a patients eyewear needs. Some encouraging may be required as often when asked about our day, we default to thinking about our career, when only a handful of jobs require prescription sunglasses!
Get your patients thinking about their time outdoors, which is often our favourite moments in life! Walking the dog, driving to work, going on holiday, watching the kids playing a sport or taking a stroll around the park, etc ... are a few examples where sunglasses can be useful.
