When Essilor launched Crizal® back in 1992, it set a new standard for lens and vision quality. Over the years, this innovative treatment has eliminated some of the biggest problems that spectacle lens-wearers had faced for years - smudging, scratching, dust deposits, water and reflections. Ever since, lens coating technology has evolved by leaps and bounds, in line with changing consumer needs and living environments.
When it comes to lenses and visual aids, one size certainly does not fit all. Every good eye care professional acknowledges this. Clients have varied visual needs and diverse lifestyle habits and lens dispensing should be tailored to suit these.
In the modern age providing a prescription isn’t enough - clients are looking for tailored solutions that address their specific concerns and lifestyle needs. To meet these, you should carry out a detailed assessment of your client’s profile before you recommend a lens solution for them, with questions ranging from the lighting conditions around them to how much time they spend in front of a screen.
The answers to these questions will help you analyse the unique habits of your patients and will lead you to dispense the right kind of lenses for them, ensuring that they receive optimal vision quality and satisfaction.
Crizal Sapphire UV: The most invisible lens for clearer vision (1)
Reflections on a lens result in poor contrast and visual discomfort. This is especially true for users whose routines revolve in environments with multiple light sources - not to mention the aesthetic hindrance they cause, especially in photographs. Crizal Sapphire UV has surpassed its predecessor, Crizal Forte UV , in terms of anti-reflection performance with its 360 multi-angular technology resulting in superior no-glare performance.
The new generation carries forth all the aspects of Crizal Forte UV, with the addition of greater anti-reflective performance, and now replaces it.
With quality cleanability and scratch resistance, the lenses are practically invisible (2)
when the wearer puts them on - these are by far the clearest lenses available in the Crizal range. What’s more, they still feature the popular Eye-Sun Protection Factor (E-SPF) as seen on the Crizal Forte UV lenses.
The multi-angular technology of Crizal Sapphire UV lenses reduces reflections from all directions, resulting in better aesthetics and best-in-class transparency when compared to its predecessor. All benefits are linked to the improvement of the AR efficiency. The performance is expressed by the (α) criterion (how Essilor measures anti-reflective efficiency) highlighting the multi-angularity property on the two surfaces of the lens.
Crizal Prevencia: For an added layer of protection
There is a growing body of evidence showing that some parts of blue light can potentially be harmful to our eyes. As we live longer, our lifetime exposure increases. With this in mind, it’s more important than ever that modern lenses can not only offer the wearers a high level of comfort but also protect their eyes from harmful UV and blue-violet light. Essilor has tailored lenses that address the changing needs of wearers. This is where Crizal Prevencia steps in.
While all Crizal lenses offer protection from reflections, scratches, smudges, dust, water and UV rays, Crizal Prevencia comes with an added protection by selectively filtering harmful blue-violet light that is mostly emitted from the sun. Crizal Prevencia, however, still allows essential blue turquoise light to pass through which facilitates better sleep / wake cycle, mood and cognitive functions.
With an E-SPF (3)
of 35, Crizal Prevencia also protects against harmful UV light which overtime will contribute to premature ageing of the eyes and early onset of cataract.
Who are these lenses recommended for?
Crizal lenses can benefit everyone, whatever their lifestyle. Modern-day consumers are acutely aware of their unique needs and seek lens solutions that are tailored just for them. As an optician, you want to raise patient awareness and offer them the best that is available in terms of lens technology. This is not upselling, but making them aware of the options that will contribute towards their optimal visual comfort. It’s an investment towards long-term eye health, visual comfort and general well-being.

(3) The E-SPF index depends on the lens material itself and the coating. E-SPF is a global index rating the overall UV protection of a lens.
E-SPF was developed by Essilor International and endorsed by 3rd party experts. Lens performance only.
The E-SPF index excludes direct eye exposure that depends on external factors (wearer’s morphology, frame shape, position of wear).
