French artist Claire Deniau was inspired by the unique expertise of Essilor’s
Special Lenses laboratory in France and the artistic possibilities that their optical lenses could offer. Claire who works and lives in Singapore has created artworks incorporating 23 mineral lenses with unique shapes, which where crafted specially for her project.
The collaboration of both parties highlights a connection between vision and art and offers a new perspective on the work in the
Special Lenses laboratory. The artwork showcases the transparency and purity of Essilor’s mineral lenses which, when placed in front of the paintings, brings a new dimension by magnifying, making smaller or distorting them. Inviting the spectator to immerse themselves in Claire’s work through the prism of the mineral lenses enabling them to admire every detail.
There are four art projects from this collaboration and they will be on display to the public in a number of international exhibitions during 2018, with each one providing a different experience.
Through this collaboration it is not only a brand new experience for Claire but also for the Special Lenses team. "It's a great way of demonstrating the incredible expertise of Essilor's Special Lenses lab, and the Special Lenses Lab team appreciated and were touched by the artist's vision of their work," says Stanislas Poussin, Special Lenses Business Unit Manager at Essilor. "It's also an opportunity to communicate about Essilor's special lenses in a different way and reach new audiences. Through this collaboration with Claire, we hope to spread Special Lenses Lab's reputation around the world and highlight its unique expertise in overcoming each new challenge posed by non-standard visual needs. And let's not forget, these needs affect one in a thousand people worldwide."
