Essilor’s Special Lens team achieves a new record of a +70D lens

In June 2017 Essilor's Special Lens team hand crafted a +70.00 D lens for Meg Zatorski in Australia. The lens is a new record for the team and the first +70.00 D power made.
Essilor's mission is to improve lives by improving sight and has brought its 150 year history in lens making to find solutions for every individual. The Special Lenses Laboratory based in France allow our customers to provide the best vision no matter how unique the requirement is.
Meg has Stargardt's disease which has resulted in central and peripheral vision loss. She approached her local optician in Australia to see if they could produce a +70.00 D powered lens to enable her to see more comfortably. They asked the question to Essilor’s Special Lens team who have been able to manufacture a +70.00 D lens. 

How did the team achieve this new lens power?

The lens was handcrafted at the laboratory by a team of 90 experts where they use their unique know how to develop effective solutions. Making the lens can require many hours work by a specialist combining the latest optics expertise with a specific manufacturing techniques to create a truly personalised solution.
