For eye care professionals

Essilor sponsors the ABDO Decathlon

21 June 2019

We are proud to have sponsored the ABDO Decathlon event raising money for Vision Care for Homeless People.
On Friday 17th May ABDO college students and staff  took part in a decathlon to help aid the charity Vision Care for Homeless People. The charity provides eyecare services to homeless and other vulnerable people in an accessible and friendly environment in which they feel safe, welcome and comfortable.

The event went extremely well and the students took part with great enthusiasm, cheered on by college staff. Four teams took part, including one made up of college staff, with the student team ‘Friends of Facial Furniture’ coming out as the overall winners.

The event was attended by Elaine Styles the Chair of Vision Care for Homeless People's Trustees, who thoroughly enjoyed watching the races and awarding the certificates to the race winners. It gave her the opportunity to speak to all the students about the important work the charity does.

The event raised an amazing £2,846 for Vision Care for Homeless People, with most of this coming from the race sponsorship given by Essilor and other corporate sponsors. Other monies came from the raffle and donations on the day. The money raised at the event is enough to fund a clinic for 5 months.

We are delighted to have been able to help Vision Care for Homeless People and the ABDO College raise this money. The students have written a short blog about the day here
